A History of Hunters Corner

1842

Unpopulated Wilderness

In 1842, when Auckland became the capital of New Zealand, the Papatoetoe area, which includes Hunters Corner, was a wilderness of low-lying swamp and undulating ground covered in flax, fern, and scrub.

1851

Land Acquisition and Development

In 1851, a plot of 251 acres, which may include part of what is now Hunters Corner, was acquired. This marked the beginning of development in the area.

1855

Community Establishment

By 1855, there were enough people in the area to open a Presbyterian church near the Great South Road, indicating the establishment of a community in the area.

1960

Birth of Hunters Corner

Hunters Corner was established as a bustling commercial hub, catering to the needs of the local community.

1980

Growth and Expansion

Hunters Corner witnessed significant growth and expansion, attracting more businesses and residents to the area.
